This month is an eclectic, almost international, collection of Trader Joe’s favorites. There’s a taste of Italy, Japan and Thailand, plus a touch of all-American fall flavors. I suppose this is a reflection of my current taste buds. A few nights ago for dinner I made a homemade Chicken Tikka Masala that completely rocked my world! Recently I have had this desire to learn how to incorporate spices, techniques and flavors I enjoy eating out, but haven’t made at home. Weeknights do get rather busy, so for nights I don’t feel like going all out with a homemade sauce, the Thai Yellow Curry Sauce from TJ’s is a new go-to.
You’ll also see a little bit of fall inching into this month’s favorites. Next month I’m thinking about doing my five favorite pumpkin items from Trader Joe’s. Guess that just means I’ll need to buy every single item to test them all out. Hah!
Unsweetened Instant Oatmeal
While this may sound pretty boring, the reason it made my favorites list is because it is a great base to add your own flavor for breakfast in the morning. The blend is made with whole grain oats, flax, chia, quinoa and amaranth. Once it’s heated in the microwave (only takes one minute!), it has a stickier texture than typical oatmeal. I like adding a splash of milk, sliced bananas, cinnamon and agave for a filling breakfast to start to the day.
Herbes de Provence
When I saw this jar of herbs nestled among the spices at Trader Joe’s on Sunday, I grabbed it faster than I’ve ever reached for an item in my life. Herbs de Provence are my BFF during the fall. Sprinkle them over any chopped vegetables with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper and roast. You’ll have a guaranteed delicious side dish for any dinner.
Matcha Green Tea Latte
I cap off my night almost every weeknight with a hot mug of tea. Matcha Green Tea has always intimidated me with it’s vibrant green color and powdery texture, but I finally decided I wanted to give it a try. This latte powder at TJ’s is great for a tea-meets-dessert option. I try to use just one generous scoop of the green tea latte powder because of the added sugar, but swapping my usual bite of chocolate with this makes for a soothing, creamy nightcap.
Pita Crisps with Cranberries and Pumpkin Seeds
If you’re going to buy one thing from this list, BUY THESE. Not to be dramatic or anything, but these pita crisps are possibly one of my favorite things from Trader Joe’s ever. Make sure to ration yourself because the crispy, chewy and cinnamon-sugar dusted crackers are addicting. Serve with a cheese board for an upcoming fall party and prepare for your guests’ reactions.
Thai Yellow Curry Sauce
I love this sauce so much I could practically drink it like a soup. The curry flavor is mild and has a subtle sweetness. I used it in a soba noodle and tofu stir fry a few weeks ago that was absolutely bomb. Store this sauce on hand for quick, flavorful weeknight dinners. It would be amazing with chicken, shrimp, tofu and any combination of veggies, brown rice or noodles.
Catch up on past TJ favorite round-ups here: March, April, May, June, July and August. Comment below or on social media if you have purchased any of the items I’ve recommend! I would love to hear what you think and also would love to hear if you have any suggestions. As I prepare for my all-out-pumpkin theme next month, I’m dying to hear what you like!
