This month I scored at Trader Joe’s with so many new favorites that I actually could have doubled my usual five favorites! A few of my other finds have made an appearance on Snapchat, but I will absolutely add them to my list for next month. Now that I’ve been blogging about my monthly favorites for almost five months (!!), I would love your feedback. Is this a series you enjoy reading? Let me know if you have ideas or insight. While you’re at it, review March, April, May, June and July favorites.
No need to wait any longer…here are five Trader Joe’s favorites I loved this month.
My first memory with beets is when I was probably in elementary school and my Aunt Patty would slice them up in her salads. I was fascinated by their pigmented color and not so intrigued by their pungent smell. Just this year I acquired the taste (well, more so the desire) to try beets in salads on my own and was pleasantly surprised. This Trader Joe’s package of baby beets is steamed, peeled and ready to eat. It is such a time saver and makes it easy to toss them into salads or my new personal favorite: smoothies! Recipe coming next week!
Organic Yerba Mate Tea
I’ve mentioned before that I’m working my way through the salsa and nut selections at Trader Joe’s, but now I’m adding the tea section to my list to conquer. I reached for this yerba mate tea to try without any idea what it would taste like. This traditional South American tea is most comparable to a very earthy green tea flavor. I love that I can actually feel the caffeination energizing me in a natural, non-jittery way, making it a nice afternoon pick-me-up at work. Sources also say it is loaded with micronutrients.
Spinach Fontina and Roasted Garlic Chicken Sausage
When I’m tired of chicken breasts, I love turning to Trader Joe’s chicken sausage as a protein source in an easy weeknight meal. There are so many options of these flavored chicken sausages (sun-dried tomato, spicy Italian and sweet apple, etc.) but this spinach fontina and roasted garlic is my favorite. I love that you can taste all three flavors in every bite, but mostly love the bite of melted fontina. Bake or pan sear these with veggies, serve with couscous, quinoa or brown rice and you’ve got a super quick dinner.
Ready to Bake Pizza Dough
Every once in a while I love making pizza at home with customized toppings as an alternative to going out to eat or even ordering delivery. Trader Joe’s dough is delicious and couldn’t be easier. Just let it sit on the counter for about 20 minutes before you stretch it and top it otherwise it is really hard to stretch! You’ve seen me reference this dough in my favorite sun-dried tomato, pesto and mozzarella pizza combo before. On Friday, I have another recipe coming, too!
Cilantro and Jalapeno Hummus
Last but certainly not least, I have to mention the hummus that is in my fridge almost at all times. I have been sampling many of the TJ’s varieties of hummus, but I always come back to this one. While I’m sure I could be economical and make a batch myself, they have the ratio down to perfection. The hummus is just spicy enough and absolutely packed with flavor. Grab some pita chips, tortilla chips or celery to dip into it and don’t be surprised if it disappears ASAP. My personal record = ate the whole container in two days.
