Last summer when I was working as an intern at Food Network, I learned about the company GIR (pronounced “gear”). Their silicon spatula turned into one of my favorite kitchen items. And my dad’s too…he actually stole one of mine for his own kitchen! I was immediately excited to hear GIR was launching a new products and put their new spoon, spatula and lids to the test. It’s impossible not to love their neon colors and they make the perfect gift for this upcoming holiday season.
Last weekend I was craving some simple French toast…just like dad used to make it for me. Leftover sandwich bread soaked in eggs and cooked with a sprinkle of cinnamon on each side. I was grateful for the impressive surface area the spatula gets. The whole piece of bread got flipped in one swift motion.
For dinner one evening I whipped out my trusty blue pot and tossed in some onions and garlic, browned some chicken and allowed it all to simmer with garbanzo beans and tomato sauce until the chicken was tender and the beans were cooked. I loved that the spoon was study enough to work with me as a sautéed the onions, but large enough to scoop up generous amounts of the thick, stew like combination to serve over couscous.
I love to savor my cup of coffee all morning while I watch the Today show and catch up on emails. However, I find myself reheating it every 20 minutes. The GIR silicon lids work for any size of container–mugs, bowls, you name it–to keep what’s inside warn, to seal it for storage or to reheat in the microwave.
