May Trader Joe’s Faves

May 23, 2017

Gourmet Gab May Trader Joe's FavoritesThis month is a big one on my Trader Joe’s list – I am declaring a new favorite kind of peanut butter! One of my friends at my local TJ’s, Matt, told me about this organic PB made with Valencia peanuts and I can’t stop eating it. That’s actually how I feel about all the May items. While they may be as simple as vanilla ice cream or yogurt, I keep reaching for them by the spoonful and had to share.

Organic Creamy Salted Peanut Butter

The nut butter selection at Trader Joe’s can be overwhelming. I enjoy trying different varieties, but never knew how much of a difference I would taste in this organic PB made with Valencia peanuts. They have a sweeter flavor and I love the contrast with the salted peanut butter. Whether you like creamy or crunchy, I’ll leave that up to you, but take my word that they’re both amazing. (I have one of each…guilty.)

European Style Yogurt

Sometimes when I’m trying to be more economical about my grocery shopping I swap out the large $5 container of Greek yogurt for this $3 European style yogurt at TJ’s. Not only is it a bargain, but it’s so creamy. The yogurt has the tang of Greek yogurt, but it’s not as thick. The consistency is a little softer than regular yogurt, but it’s absolutely luscious and I could have a granola and fruit parfait with it everyday.

Pistachio Nutmeats

I went through a phase where I wanted to try every trail mix variety to find my favorite. Last week I decided to buy the roasted and salted pistachio nutmeats to mix up my own trail mix with almonds, dried cherries, walnuts and chocolate chips. Every bite I reach for, I make sure I can find a few of the salty pistachios because they’re my favorite part. Try them out and make your own trail mix snack!

Harissa Salsa

When I put together these lists, I should preface that they are not in numerical order of favorite. If they were, this harissa salsa would have to be tied with the peanut butter! Trader Joe’s describes harissa as a “traditional spicy North African chili paste that’s made from a recipe of sun dried hot red chili peppers, with garlic, coriander, and salt. It’s renowned for its heat and its depth of flavor.” The salsa is more like a sauce with chunks of sweet roasted red peppers. I scoop it on my breakfast tacos, stir into a quinoa bowl with veggies and protein or dip with chips. It’s got some good heat, but I love that it packs the North African and Mexican flavors into one jar.

French Vanilla Ice Cream

As we move into summertime where backyard barbecues, fruit crisps and ice cream sandwiches become a dessert of choice, I had to highlight this amazing French vanilla ice cream. It is such a good classic. While I bought it to top a microwave strawberry crisp (coming to Food Network Snapchat Discover soon), I found myself eating it by the spoonful by itself.

What are your recent favorites? I would love to hear!

Love food. Love self. Love life.
