On Change and Food

Four years ago I started my first semester of college. Tomorrow, I will be walking across the stage receiving my diploma from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. One of the constants over the last four years has been this blog. I wanted to give you readers a special thanks for standing beside my exploration of this space over the last few years. I have refined my voice, told stories of food and recipes, and experienced how cool the blogosphere can be.

What I have learned over the past four years of blogging is that if you have a platform you are truly passionate about and maintain authenticity in every post, the followers and views will come. While I have always yearned to reach a larger audience to be able to connect with more people on a topic I adore so dearly, I would much rather have a small supportive community than a large one that only functions for statistic purposes. Thank you for being those loyal readers and for giving me motivation to keep sharing my voice.

Changes are coming for me, I will be starting my first real job and venturing into the real world. I promise that I will keep up the blogging as frequently as I can. I can’t wait to take my readers along the journey with me and hope that Gourmet Gab can keep being a source of creativity, inspiration and community for both you and I.

One of the things that I’ve learned about my self over the changes of the past four years is that food is what keeps me grounded. The love of the kitchen, the love of filling the whole house with a mouth-watering aroma and the joy I get by sharing what I create will never get old. Starting my day with coffee and peanut butter toast will keep my sane regardless of what the day holds. Sitting down to dinner and a glass of wine with people I love is the best way to unwind. Drinks or dessert with girlfriends will renew my spirit and inspire me to keep being myself.

I hope you, too, see the beauty of change and the roller coaster life can sometimes be. Even amid the moments of the highs and lows, I hope you’ll find that food is intricately related to the way we feel about ourselves, our bodies and our lives. It can be the foundation of a celebration or the nourishment we need during the hard times. Food is the common factor among all people, and I’m so blessed that it has been the commonality among the Gourmet Gab community over the past four years. Thank you all.

Love food. Love self. Love life.
