Pisa and Florence

October 18, 2012

Italy was all that I expected it to be, and more. Alexander and I spent 5 days eating our way through Pisa, Florence and Cinque Terre. I have so many pictures I want to share, but here are a few favorites from Pisa and Florence.

It all began at the Leaning Tower. Unbelievable! I also really enjoyed the city of Pisa–full of Tuscan charm and simple to navigate. Walking along the Arno River truly takes you back into history! We were only there for half a day, but I would go back in a heartbeat.

Next stop…Florence! Or Firenze, as the Italians call it. After scoping the selection of Italians wines at a quaint local wine store, Alexander and I shared a mini bottle of Vino Bianco (white wine) along the river during sunset.

As you can imagine, the pasta was phenomenal. What I loved most was that it was truly cooked al dente, or slightly chewy.

The gelato was piled high everywhere we turned. It was our go-to snack after lots of walking and the perfect compliment after dinner. Stracciatella and Tiramasu were my favorites in Florence.

The Duomo was truly unreal! We had a spectacular view of it from the Pizzale Michangelo.

After watching a documentary called The Perfect CappuccinoI was ready to experience a whole different kind of cappuccino in Italy. Ones with perfectly steamed foam and exquisitely pulled espresso. Boy, were they heavenly!

Overall, the history and amazing Italian cuisine of Pisa and Florence won me over. I highly recommend visiting both cities in Tuscany. Next, I can’t wait to share about our journey to Cinque Terre. Stay tuned to read about Limoncino, seafood and pesto!

Love food, love self, love life.
