8 Tips for an Easy Travel Day

Summer is the time to travel and explore a new city. Get your trip started off smoothly with my tips for a seamless travel day. Over the last year alone I’ve been on a plane almost fifty times for work and for fun. I’ve had time to really nail down my travel rhythm and groove, so I rounded up my ultimate tips to an easy travel day.

Layer your Clothes

Planes are inevitably going to be cold, but sometimes the jetways can heat up to 100 degrees! Layering your clothes will ensure you’re prepped for any of the elements. During the summer, maxi dresses are my favorite to travel in since they cover your legs but are also comfortable. This dress is perfect because it’s easy to wear, but cute enough to head straight to drinks or exploring right off the plane. To be extra prepped, toss a pair of socks into your bag if you’re going to wear sandals and bring a jean jacket or sweater.

Use the right bag

My Lo and Sons OG bag is my ultimate travel BFF. We’ve gone coast to coast together from Oregon to Texas to Florida to New York City. Over the last two years, this bag has held up beautifully. I love that it has a pocket for everything: my passport, my keys, an extra pair of shoes, cords, laptop and then some. Don’t forget to stick an extra change of clothes in your carry-on just in case you happen to get stuck somewhere!

Pack Snacks

Always have a granola bar or trail mix in your bag. There’s nothing worse than being hungry on a long flight. I’ve tried to bring a banana on the plane one too many times and it always ends up bruised and mushy. Trail mix or granola bars won’t get mushed or break on the plane, plus you can keep them with you for the flight back.

Stay hydrated

Bring a water bottle that won’t leak with the air pressure. I love my Camelback water bottle, but it leaks on work documents or my Kindle. Bring a bottle with a tight cap and fill it up when you’re through security. It will save you from buying an overpriced bottle at the airport and ensure you have H20 if you’re stuck on a plane without beverage service.

passbook app

Use the iPhone Passbook app for your boarding pass. I have converted from paper to mobile boarding passes because I always have my phone with me. No chance you’ll loose the pass, and you can use the airline apps for checking if the plane is on-time or if there’s a gate change.

music and headphones

Download new playlists to your Spotify and don’t forget your noise canceling headphones! I’ve been traveling with over the ear Bose headphones for about eight years and they’re still holding up strong. The minute I get on the plane, I plug these in and explore new playlists I downloaded the night before.

stay juiced

Come prepared with your own portable cell phone charger. It’s the best surprise when a plane has USB chargers with each seat, but that’s not guaranteed. This gold lipstick-sized portable charger is my favorite! It’s saved me many times when my plane is delayed or I’ve been Snapchatting too much on low battery.

Make a do-not-forget list

The night before your trip, use a pen and paper or your favorite reminders app (I use Wunderlist) and write down reminders. I travel with my silk pillow so the curls don’t get frizzy, and I can’t forget that! I also add iPhone charger, computer charger and make-up to my list.

A seamless travel day is the best day to start off your trip. With these tips, you’ll feel like a travel expert and be ready to explore your new city!
